Notes: Daniel’s birth was registered as Dan Siggs in the December quarter of 1878. On 14 March 1899 he signed up for three years’ service with the Colours and 9 years in the Reserves in the Coldstream Guards. He gave his age as 20 years and 7 months, and stated that he was a game keeper. His Army record said that he was 5ft 10in tall, weighed 131lb, with a maximum chest measurement of 35 ½in., a fresh complexion, grey eyes, and light brown hair. He identified as a member of the Church of England. He was discharged on 23 June 1899; his Army record included the comment “Not likely”.

 

Daniel later enlisted in the Labour Corps on 6 June 1916, and was discharged on 7 December 1918; cause of discharge “Wound Para 392 xvi”. Was issued with a Silver War Badge Roll 1914-1920 on 7 August 1919.
